EMU Early Science KSP GP + MCs + RS Workshop

Europe/Rome
Osservatorio Astrofisico di Catania

Osservatorio Astrofisico di Catania

Via Santa Sofia, 78, 95123 Catania
Description

With the first ASKAP EMU Early Science data coming soon to us, the Radio Stars, Magellanic Clouds, and Galactic Plane KSPs joined forces to organize a kick-off workshop in Catania, Italy to prepare for the arrival of the first images and to move on to the full EMU Survey. During this workshop we will learn about the current status of the telescope and the software. We will review data processing and analysis problems in particular those that are unique to the presence of extended emission and have discussion to find solutions to those problems, refining existing techniques or maybe developing new ones. We will also discuss individual science projects, consider their challenges, and find solutions to maximize the science output. In addition, including the multi-frequency approach, comparing our data with those at other frequencies from low frequency radio waves to X-rays will help to realize the full scientific potential of our data.

We will discuss Technical and Survey updates on Tuesday (October 18) and there will also be limited time to present individual science projects. On Wednesday (October 19) there will be a presentation and discussing of technical challenges, such as data processing, source extraction, and spectral index determination. The Thursday (October 20) will be reserved for the discussion of scientific challenges and the inclusion of data observed at other frequencies.

There will be no registration fee. To register, please, send an email by September 2nd to Grazia Umana at:

grazia.umana@oact.inaf.it

If you are unable to attend but would like to connect remotely, please send Grazia an email as well.

We are looking forward to seeing you all in Catania
